Fourteen million years ago volcanic ash formed the soft tufa surface which, over the past eight or ten thousand years, has eroded to form the strange pyramids and cones of Cappadocia. These karsts remain one of the most unusual natural formations in the world. This image was made in the town of Goreme, Cappadocia, Turkey.
